Let’s face it—travel is more fun when you know what you’re doing. You don’t need to be a frequent flyer or seasoned cruiser to move through airports like a pro, score a better room, or get treated like a VIP.

That’s what Being Fancy Foxer is all about. I'm your go-to for real-world travel advice that I’ve picked up through years of planning dream vacations and taking them myself. No fluff. No guilt. Just smarter, smoother travel...exactly how you want it!

Here are 15 of my favorite pro tips, secrets, and small tweaks that make a big difference.

✈️ Flights & Flying Smarter

1. Avoid Jet Lag Before You Land- Shift your sleep schedule a few days before departure. Heading east? Go to bed earlier. Westbound? Stay up later. You’ll feel better when you land and waste less time recovering.

2. Skip the Seat Shuffle Stress- Traveling with someone? Book the aisle and window in a three-seat row. That middle might stay open. If someone takes it, chances are they’ll happily trade to let you sit together. Or better yet, book an Aisle/Aisle!

3. Boarding Group Blues? No Problem- If you don’t have elite status, consider checking your bag and boarding later without the stress. Or use an airline-branded credit card to board earlier and settle in calmly.

4. Never Get Stuck Without Power- Pack a universal adapter and a 3-way splitter. Outlets are gold in hotels and airports. Having the right tools means you stay charged and maybe even make a new friend in need of one.

🛏️ Hotels & Where You Stay

5. Best Room Isn’t Always a Suite- Ask for a “corner king,” “quiet location,” or “high floor with a view” at check-in. These are easy upgrades that often get honored without needing to pay more.

6. Smarter Than Early Check-In- Ask to pre-register and leave your bags at the front desk. It gets you into their system and ups your chances of getting into your room early...without putting pressure on the staff.

7. Going Boutique? Triple Check for AC and Elevator- Especially in Europe. A charming little inn can mean hauling bags up four flights of stairs in August heat. Always confirm your must-haves in reviews or with your travel advisor.

8. Don’t Judge a Hotel by the Lobby- That glitzy entrance might hide a tired room… and some dated lobbies lead to lovely modern spaces. Focus on the most recent reviews and photos of the actual room category you’re booking.

🌍 Pro Travel Moves

9. Make Your Luggage Stand Out- Add a bold-colored luggage tag, sticker, or ID band so you can spot your suitcase quickly at baggage claim. Just avoid long ribbons or strings that can get caught on conveyor belts.

10. Use Google Maps Like a Local- Download offline maps before you go. Star your hotel and any must-see spots. When your Wi-Fi fails (and it will), you’ll still be able to navigate like a champ.

11. Get TSA PreCheck and Global Entry Save More Than Time- They reduce stress, prevent missed flights, and streamline your entire airport experience. If you travel once a year or more, they’re worth every penny.

12. Always Pack One Outfit in Your Carry-On- Luggage gets lost. Pack a change of clothes, chargers, and essentials in your carry-on so a mishap becomes a hiccup, not a meltdown.

💺 Better Service, Smoother Experience

13. Tip Early, Not Just at the End- Start your stay on a good note. A small tip and a kind word for the concierge or housekeeper on day one can result in next-level service for the entire trip.

14. Learn Just a Few Local Words- You don’t need to be fluent. A sincere “thank you” or “hello” in the local language goes a long way with staff and locals alike.

15. Keep Calm and Carry Wet Wipes- Planes, train trays, questionable café tables… wipes and hand sanitizer are essential. You’ll feel more comfortable and stay healthier.

Let’s make your next trip the smoothest one yet. Be a Fancy Foxer. Your world awaits.
